What are worn teeth?
Worn teeth are when you experience loss of the surface of your teeth. This can result in increased sensitivity and discoloration, which in turn leads to a loss of confidence that affects your everyday life.
How do teeth get worn and chipped?
There are many ways that teeth can become chipped or worn.
- Abrasion is usually caused by something rubbing against your teeth, such as excessive use of a toothbrush. Most electronic toothbrushes have a warning light to indicate when you are brushing to hard, which can help reduce how quickly this occurs.
- Attrition is wear from when your bottom and top teeth rub or grind together. Sometimes this is caused by your bite, however in others, the grinding of the teeth whilst sleep can also be a contributing factor.
- Erosion is when acids cause were to your teeth. Often this is caused by acidic food and drink, however acids can also originate from your digestive systems, such as through vomiting.
Some of the most common causes can include damage from food and drink, especially from acidic items. Chips can also occur if you bite down on something hard such as bone, hard sweets, or ice cubes. It is even possible for your teeth to be damaged from an injury to the face such as a sports injury.
